WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR (WSI) TRAINING

ABOUT THIS COURSE

This class is for students who want to become an American Red Cross certified water safety instructor. This class will prepare an individual to teach swimming lessons and water safety at any aquatic facility. Students will learn the skills necessary to organize and teach the American Red Cross swim lesson programs. The Learn to Swim program includes: Level 1 through Level 6 swim lessons, preschool aquatics classes and parent and child aquatics classes. Students must turn 16 years old by the last date of the instructor class. Students must also pass the prescreening requirements to participate in this class.

 

Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Water Safety Instructor, which is valid for 2 years from the course completion date.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS

An Informed Consent and Release of Liability form must be completed and signed in order to participate in any C.A.T.S. class or program.


AGE Requirements

Students must turn 16 years old by the last date of the lifeguarding class.


Prescreening Requirements

  • Students must swim 25 yards front crawl.*

  • Students must swim 25 yards back stroke.*

  • Students must swim 25 yards side stroke.*

  • Students must swim 25 yards elementary back stroke.*

  • Students must swim 15 yards butterfly.*

 

*The strokes must meet the requirements to pass the American Red Cross level 4 swim lesson program.

 

In the event that a participant cannot meet the Prescreening Requirements and therefore does not pass the pre-course, the participant may transfer into a later class at no charge or a refund of the class fee minus a $25 administrative fee will be given. Refunds will be made by check.

Please download, print and complete the Informed Consent and Release of Liability Form.  Each participant must bring a completed and signed form to the first session of class in order to participate in any Cincinnati Aquatic Training Services (C.A.T.S.) class or program.
