About this Class

This class will prepare an individual to become an integral part of an aquatic facility. Students will learn the skills necessary to become a professional Lifeguard. Students must turn 15 years old by the last date of the lifeguarding class. Students must also pass the prescreening lifeguarding requirements to participate in this class. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years from the course completion date.  Some of the classes offered are Blended Learning classes. Blended Learning Lifeguard Training combines online learning with in person skills sessions. The online portion will require: assignments, end of chapter review questions and reading the lifeguard manual. The E-Learning portion will take a minimum of 7 hours out of the classroom and the remaining 20 hours will be spent in person completing water skills, CPR/AED & First Aid skills and finally successful completion of all skills testing.

An Informed Consent and Release of Liability form must be completed and signed in order to participate in any C.A.T.S. class or program.

Age Requirements

Students must turn 15 years old by the last date of the lifeguarding class.

Prescreening Requirements

Students must swim a 300 yard continuous swim using either front crawl or breast stroke or a combination of the two strokes.

Students must swim 20 yards using front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive to a minimum of 7 feet, retrieve a 10 pound brick, return to the surface with the brick and swim back to the starting point, keeping face above water and holding the 10 pound brick with both hands. Students must tread water using only their legs for 2 minutes while holding their hands under their armpits.

In the event that a participant cannot meet the Prescreening Requirements and therefore does not pass the pre-course, the participant may transfer into a later class at no charge or a refund of the class fee minus a $25 administrative fee will be given. Refunds will be made by check.

Please download, print, and complete the Informed Consent and Release of Liability Form.  Each participant must bring a completed and signed form to the first session of class in order to participate in any Cincinnati Aquatic Training Services (C.A.T.S.) class or program.
