  • Where Can I Find the Informed Consent and Release of Liability Form?

Each participant must bring a completed and signed form to the first session of class in order to participate in any Cincinnati Aquatic Training Services (C.A.T.S.) class or program.
  • What Happens if Prescreening Requirements are Not Passed?
    In the event that a participant cannot meet the Prescreening Requirements and therefore does not pass the pre-course, the participant may transfer into a later class at no charge or a refund of the class fee minus a $25 administrative fee will be given. Refunds will be made by check.

  • What is the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Class?
    This class is for students who want to become an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard. An individual will be prepared to become an integral part of an aquatic facility. Students will learn the skills necessary to become a professional Lifeguard. The prescreening lifeguarding requirements must be completed to participate in this class. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years from the course completion date. Age Requirements Students must turn 15 years old by the last date of the lifeguarding class. Prescreening Requirements Students must swim a 300 yard continuous swim using either front crawl or breast stroke or a combination of the two strokes. Students must swim 20 yards using front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive to a minimum of 7 feet, retrieve a 10 pound brick, return to the surface with the brick and swim back to the starting point, keeping face above water and holding the 10 pound brick with both hands. The student must then place the brick on the side of the pool and exit the pool without using a ladder or steps. This must be done in 1 minute and 40 seconds. Students must tread water using only their legs for 2 minutes while holding their hands under their armpits.

    This class is for students who are current American Red Cross lifeguards and their certification is about to expire. Current certification in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required to participate in the review course. Students must also pass the prescreening lifeguarding requirements to participate in this class. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years from the course completion date. Students will learn the skills necessary to organize and teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding. Students must turn 17 years old by the last date of the lifeguarding instructor class. Current certification in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required to participate in this instructor course. Students must also pass the prescreening lifeguarding requirements to participate in this class. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding instructor which is valid for 2 years from the course completion date. Pre-class Requirements Students must complete an online requirement mandated by the American Red Cross. A link will be sent to you once your registration is complete. You must print out and bring to the first class the certificate that shows course completion.   • What is the American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer Review Class?
    Instructors/ITs must successfully complete an in-person Lifeguarding Instructor/Instructor Trainer Review course within 1 year after completing the Lifeguarding Instructor/Instructor Trainer Online Update, then every subsequent 2 years The Instructor/Instructor Trainer Review course replaces the requirement to complete a re-certification assessment for lifeguarding instructors/ITs; the re-certification assessment is no longer required for Lifeguard Instructor/Instructor Trainers. This in water skills class will meet the requirements for updating your certifications. all instructor/instructor trainers must have their own copies of all manuals. An Informed Consent and Release of Liability form must be completed and signed in order to participate in any C.A.T.S. class or program.
  • What is the American Red Cross Lifeguard Water Safety Instructor Training Class?
    This class is for students who want to become an American Red Cross certified water safety instructor. This class will prepare an individual to teach swimming lessons and water safety at any aquatic facility. Students will learn the skills necessary to organize and teach the American Red Cross swim lesson programs. The Learn to Swim program includes: Level 1 through Level 6 swim lessons, preschool aquatics classes and parent and child aquatics classes. Students must turn 16 years old by the last date of the instructor class. Students must also pass the prescreening requirements to participate in this class. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Water Safety Instructor, which is valid for 2 years from the course completion date. Age Requirements Students must turn 16 years old by the last date of the lifeguarding class. Prescreening Requirements Students must swim 25 yards front crawl.* Students must swim 25 yards back stroke.* Students must swim 25 yards side stroke.* Students must swim 25 yards elementary back stroke.* Students must swim 15 yards butterfly.* *The strokes must meet the requirements to pass the American Red Cross level 4 swim lesson program. In the event that a participant cannot meet the Prescreening Requirements and therefore does not pass the pre-course, the participant may transfer into a later class at no charge or a refund of the class fee minus a $25 administrative fee will be given.
